The Cubs Are Heading To The World Series

Go Cubs Go! It’s a dream that is more than a hundred years in the making. It’s the source of many stories about the curse of a man with a goat. Then, there was the avid fan that is blamed for ruining chances for a world series run more than a decade ago.  The man named Bartman was forced into hiding.  Now, the wait is over and with the curse, the goat and that foul ball that changed the course of one playoff game behind us, the Cubs heading to the world series is a family affair.  As the 9th inning approached, my oldest son sent me a text with this pic. “If you are looking for a picture to post, you can use this one.” The picture was taken…

The World Changed A Little Last Night

The World Changed A Little Last Night

Blog, Featured
You don't have to be a die hard Cubs fan or even a big baseball fan to know that the world changed a little last night. A double play from Russell to Baez to Rizzo and the Chicago Cubs won the National League pennant, defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-0 in Game 6 of the NLCS. As a result, the Cubs will head to Cleveland, where they'll take on the Cleveland Indians in the World Series beginning on Tuesday. The 2016 National League Champions didn't just win the pennant for themselves or even just the current Cubs fanbase. They did it  for millions of fans over the last 100 years who have hoped and waited for another World Series to be played on the North side of Chicago. One look…

Don't have an unlimited marketing budget? WordStream, an online advertising blog, lists 22 of their favorite ways small business can save money on their marketing. 1. Publish Great Content. I don’t think I even need to say this, but it’d be neglectful not to mention the importance of kick-ass content. If you can create it yourself, all the better (isn’t free always better?). Even if writing isn’t your strong point, you shouldn’t have too much trouble getting someone on your team to crank out some articles for your blog. Try top 10 lists, tip collections, best practices for your industry, etc. I shared a bunch of creative content marketing ideas here, and Elisa recently rewrote the rules of content marketing for small businesses. 2. Create Instructional Videos. Video content is…

Mickle Communications and 104.9 the Hawk Cover The Back Porch Revival

Blog, Featured
There is something truly inspiring about seeing people come together for a common cause. It’s even more inspiring when they come from across the state of Iowa for a first-ever mega-country concert in Kinnick Stadium.  The Back Porch Revival lived up to its name. Tens of thousands of people attended the concert. Many of them were just there for the country music. Blake Shelton, Thomas Rhett and Big and Rich were among the performers. Throw in an appearance by former Indianapolis Colt, Dallas Clark and television star Ashton Kutcher and you truly have an all-star line-up. What many did not expect was a revival of enormous pride in the state we call home. All of the money raised goes to www.thenativefund.com. An organization founded by Clark and supported by Kutcher.…

An Emmy Award Would Be Great But Sharing The Message Matters

An Emmy Award Would Be Great But Sharing The Message Matters

https://vimeo.com/156012850 Sometimes the award or even the nomination you hope for isn’t the biggest prize. With 30 plus years as a broadcast journalist under my belt, I’ve always wondered what it would be like to be nominated for an Emmy.  It finally happened this week. Our documentary, “If You Only Knew: The Journey Through Teen Depression and Suicide” got the nod from the Mid-America Emmy Association.  Did it feel good to be recognized for our work?  Absolutely.  However, there was something much bigger at play here.  Getting the nomination means the conversation about teen depression and suicide will continue.  Hopefully, more people will realize we need to talk with our children about their emotional health.  Maybe, we can remove the stigma of depression.  That’s the “real” win here.  Whether we…

Mickle Communications Travels To Peru

Blog, Documentaries, Featured
Sometimes a story becomes so big, it’s almost impossible to tell. That is almost the case for what our team witnessed in Peru over the past ten days. What do you say to a mom who had to decide to sell some of her children because she couldn’t afford to feed all of them?  How does a parent decide what child will be forced into sex slavery or sold as slave labor?  How do you sit with a man who willingly admits he’s buying the children and has no compassion for them at all? Lastly, how do you encourage the kids who, so far, have managed to escape? Mickle Communications is the only video production company to send a crew to Peru to capture this gut-wrenching story.  Harry Walker has…
